Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, the Auckland region is home to over a third of New Zealand's entire population. Situated between two large harbours, Auckland is a haven for seaborne activities, and incorporates all the things you would expect to find a seaside town despite its status as New Zealand's biggest city.
Auckland's central location in the upper North Island makes it an excellent destination for those that want to experience a range of activities in this part of the country. On average only half an hour from rainforest, the harbour, a volcano, vineyards and beaches, there are tens of unique and exciting things to do.
Surrounded by over 50 islands, if you feel the need to get away from it all you can get away from it all and take a day trip (or longer!) to Waiheke, Rangitito or travel a little further afloat to Great Barrier. Each Island has its own character and list of activities, so plan ahead to make the most of an Island excursion.
